9. Back to the Italian Mainland


9.We sailed back to the Italian Mainland after memorable visits to the Tuscan Islands.

We moored in Marina Riva di Trianno, Porto Turistico di Roma and Nettuno. Nettuno old town was lovely with narrow streets suddenly opening up to little squares full of restaurants. However the piece de resistance was the best ice cream ever!! Yoghurt ice cream with Amarena (sour cherries) DELICIOUS!!!

It is traditional in small Italian towns to promenade in the late evenings and to have an ice cream. You often see the streets full of people promenading. 




Sunset at Nettuno 


Leaving Nettuno in the morning we suddenly saw a Police Motor launch speeding towards us. Feelings of apprehension started. We were told we were in a Military Firing Range area and we needed to change course. We had seen it on the chart to standby on VHF Channel 13 if the range was to be used.                 
The Italians had changed the Channel to 8!  
We heard the boom of the guns way out to sea.

    Glad to see the passion for yogurt ice cream hasn’t changed not to mention the sour cherries!! Trust you two to run into the Italian forces. You are visiting lovely places so keep the photos coming. On marine traffic it certainly seems there’s a lot of sea!
