5. Porto Azzurro - East side of Elba
5. Porto Azzurro
Porto Azzurro is a very pretty small town with a small marina. We moored up next to an Australian couple who we were next to at Marciana Marina.
The harbour master was very business like and gave us a lecture on how to dispose of our rubbish which certainly needed a good explanation. We were given different coloured bags of which each had a QR code attached. One bag for plastic and aluminium another for general waste and another for bottles etc...
We went to the bin area to find a row of sealed bins. We had to place the QR code against a reader and hey presto the right coloured bin lid opened and we put our coloured plastic bag in. In the general waste bin we still found all sorts in there so this expensive system was still a problem. It was quite complicated!
At the top of one of the hills there was a large fort which had been converted into a prison with the proverbial watch towers in each corner. I was not sure if it was still being used.
