 51. IT'S NOT ALL PLAIN SAILING PART 4.

WAITING OUT A STORM.

We are in Santa Teresa di Gallura in North Sardinia and I am writing this as we are holed up in a marina waiting for a big Mistral storm. Buckets of rain, hail and up to 62 Knots (71 mph) of wind. We should be here for 4 days. We are in the Bouche de Bonifacio, the gap between Corsica in the North and Sardinia in the South and where the Mistral (the West wind of the Western Med) comes crashing down the Rhone valley and spreads out to the East and across the Med engulfing Corsica and Sardinia and when it hits the Bouche it is like a Vortex and it speeds up through the narrow channel. Boats from everywhere are joining us to wait out the storm. So this is a good time for me to catch up on the BLOG!!
Rain and hail has just started and thunder and lightning so we are tucked up between other boats with Italians on both sides. The driving rain is coming through the vents on the cabin doors so I have to stand holding a towel agains the vents otherwise we will be soaked. The boat is rocking side to side with the violent storm howling around us. We have extra lines holding us to the pontoon.

We cannot complain as we had a most wonderful few days pottering through the North and North East Sardinia coast with some beautiful anchorages. So good that we have decided this is where we will spend some time next year. Anyway I will try and write up the missing pages.

Predict Wind Gust Map showing up to 62 Knots or 71 mph winds.
The Dark Grey colour is the worst wind Corsica is just outlined but Sardinia where we are is dark grey.
