40. Sailing to Syracuse

40. Sailing to Syracuse

We left Ragusa early to make good time to reach Syracuse. We knew there is a brilliant anchorage in the grand bay where it is easy to drop your anchor if you arrive late in the evening.

We passed the southernmost tip of Sicily and turned North up the East Coast.
It was now 35 Nautical Miles ( equals 40 UK Miles) to Syracuse. That takes a little longer than driving on the motorway at 100 Km/hr.

As you can see sometimes there was little wind. We had to tease the sails with a little power from the engine to give us more speed.

A deep valley close to Syracuse. The mountainous terrain was awe inspiring.
