We started off walking in the old Jewish quarter which was quiet and free from tourists. There was a distinct artist atmosphere with unusual small shops and narrow streets.
Coloured hats dangling from buildings
The old Jewish quarter
Some very, very narrow streets
Time to look for a restaurant
We had dinner at this beautiful courtyard restaurant
We passed these people having their tarot cards read.
Travelling musicians
The Fountain of Diana at night. Try a Zoom
The view of the old city with the Cathedral lit up on the left. Try a Zoom
So we had to say goodbye to Syracuse and there was still much to see. We will have to go back
We upped the anchor to sail away heading for the Messina Straits
One of my favourite cities. Did you notice in the cathedral the Doric columns of the old 5thC BC Temple of Athena which were incorporated into the cathedral fabric? You can see them sticking through the walls both inside and out. V odd! Shame so much of the architecture, particularly the smaller buildings, are in a state of collapse. M xx
