63. Bonifacio and West Coast of Corsica

 63. Bonifacio and West Coast of Corsica

We headed out from St Teresa Gallura sailing towards the South West tip of Corsica. We were surprised we were able to sail as we thought the wind would be on the nose but pleasantly surprised we had a good sail up to Porto Pollo in the Gulf of Propriano

Cruise liner reversing into the fiord or Calanque of the narrow harbour

Porto Pollo where we took a buoy and in the process lost a gaffe which I had to dive in to save,
A kindly Swiss sailor used his dingy to help us tie up to the buoy. Lesson is to get a new gaffe with a device to grab the loop of the buoy.

This is the stage where planes play a part. We were leaving Porto Pollo in the morning when we saw two French firefighting sea planes start a descent to practice picking up water. The following pictures show what happens.

Leaving Porto Pollo

Some of the Capes we passed have ominous looking rocks which continue further out to sea but hidden underwater so care must be taken.

We have plenty of warning from the coastgaurds!

And even in ancient times but this was possibly more to warn of Pirates approaching
